Why should I use GaitCheck?
GaitCheck is used to evaluate a horse's gait and detect subtle postures that cannot be detected by the human eye alone. There are two main uses for the GaitCheck system:
- To test a horse for early signs of asymmetrical gait issues that may indicate symptoms of impending lameness.
- To track the progress of a horse's therapy over time to see if the therapy is effective.
How does the GaitCheck system work?
GaitCheck works by attaching sensors to a horse and tracking those sensors with the handheld GaitCheck controller. The controller analyzes the position and motion of the sensors during testing and calculates a gait score for your horse. As the gait score increases, so does the likelihood that lameness is present in your horse. Similarly, the greater the gait score, the greater the potential severity of lameness. The gait score tests should be repeated several times, to establish an average result. A single high score, that cannot be reproduced, is not cause for concern. Refer to the GaitCheck User Guide for more details relating to how scores can be interpreted.
How do you attach the sensors to the horse?
To attach the sensors to the horse, regular masking tape can be used. For best results, use a tape that is about 5 cm (2 in) wide, cut to about 30 cm (1 ft) in length.
At what distance can tests be performed?
The system range is 20 m (65 ft). Make sure you keep the horse (sensors) and the controller within this range.
You will need enough room to trot the horse in a circle on a lunge line and to trot the horse in a straight line for approximately six seconds.
How much does the GaitCheck system cost?
The complete GaitCheck System, including the GaitCheck Controller, 2 sensors, batteries, and user guide, costs $575 USD.
