Using GaitCheck to Detect Horse Lameness Warning Signs
Using GaitCheck to detect lameness warning signs in your horse is quick and easy. GaitCheck is a self-contained system that requires no software or computers. GaitCheck evaluates data from two sensors attached to your horse and immediately provides two gait scores that can be used as indicators for potential lameness.
The following steps and video offer an overview on how the system is used.
- Groom your horse to remove debris and oils that may prevent adhesive tape from sticking.
- Turn the GaitCheck Controller device on and activate each of the two sensors.
- Secure sensors to the horse using adhesive tape. Attach one to the horse's withers and the other on the pelvis, at the highest point on the hind quarters.
- Trot the horse in a straight line. For increased measurement sensitivity, lunge your horse in both clockwise and counter clockwise directions as well.
- The GaitCheck Controller will report a "score" indicating the health of your horse's gait.
